Bhutan Youth Development Fund (YDF) is a national NGO that has been steadily expanding its services to the youth since 1999. The youth of Bhutan are recognized as very important stakeholdersin the development of the country. YDF’s mission is to give youth opportunities to become citizens of worth through education, leadership, skills development and empowerment programs. While its Leadership program reaches out to all the young people in the country, its four other programs on Special Education, Empowerment for Employment, Drug Education, Prevention and Treatment and Scholarships address the unmet needs of its target groups. They include youth from low income families, those with special educational needs, the vulnerable and unemployed and youth dealing with the challenge of substance abuse and addiction.
With its mandate being to work with and for youth, it has had to be dynamic to respond efficiently to the ever changing needs of its target audience. It is now more focused on making a difference in areas that lack adequate support from the government, hence, reaching the unreached segments of the country’s large youth population.
